The former President of the National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURTW), Tajudeen Baruwa, is being blamed by MC Oluomo, the current Chairman of the NURTW in Lagos, for causing a crisis within the union.
According to MC Oluomo, Baruwa’s actions, which were not in line with the union’s constitution, led to turmoil within the Lagos chapter of the union. Specifically, Baruwa’s appointment of another state chairman for tricycle operators in Lagos, resulting in two chairmen in one state, caused confusion and potential disorder. MC Oluomo, who played a role in Baruwa’s appointment, stated that he acted within the law and constitution of the NURTW. However, after Baruwa attempted to suspend him, MC Oluomo took legal action and moved to the Lagos State Parks and Garages, with union members following him. The dispute has led to the formation of a Caretaker Committee to oversee the NURTW in the Southwest region, and MC Oluomo is calling for reconciliation and for Baruwa to seek nomination and adoption from the Southwest zone if he wishes to seek re-election.
