The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially declared the start date for the 2023 school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a pre-examination press conference held in Lagos State on Thursday, WAEC announced that the test will commence on May 8 and run until June 23, giving candidates a seven-week window to complete the exam.
According to the Head of National Office, Patrick Areghan, a total of 1,621,853 candidates from 20,851 public and private schools have registered for the exam.
This is a significant increase from the 2022 figures, which saw 1,578,846 candidates from 19,129 schools sit for the exam.
