In a recent devastating incident in Mangu Local Council of Plateau State, a respected minister from the Assemblies of God Church, along with two individuals, fell victim to a brutal attack allegedly carried out by the notorious herdsmen.
The shocking incident unfolded in Npat Village’s Kombun District, where an unnamed clergyman was tragically shot inside his own home. According to a reliable source close to the family, the armed militia forcefully broke into the compound at approximately 10:00 p.m. Upon spotting them, the clergyman tried to evade capture by fleeing into hiding, but the assailants managed to locate him and ruthlessly gun him down. To compound the tragedy, the militia also seized the clergyman’s livestock before fleeing the scene.
The lifeless body of the clergyman was later discovered in a pool of blood, leaving the community in deep sorrow and anguish.
The sorrowful aftermath of the attack extended to the neighboring villages of Jol and Byei, located in the Riyom Local Council. It was there that two young individuals, Elisha Dalyop and Abednego Davou, lost their lives in the same violent assault. Another resident, Patrick Joshua, reportedly sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Christian Hospital in Vom.
Adams Joshua, the councilor for Jol Ward in Riyom, confirmed the distressing incident. According to his account, suspected herdsmen invaded Jol and Byei around 10:00 p.m., unleashing a hail of gunfire that resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals and severe injuries to another. After perpetrating the attack, the assailants vanished, leaving the grieving communities in a state of mourning.
Efforts to reach DSP Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the Plateau Police Command, for further information on the incident proved challenging at the time of reporting. The authorities continue their investigations into this harrowing incident that has shaken the local communities and heightened concerns over security.
