The situation in the Rivers State government has worsened as the state Assembly has reportedly issued a notice to impeach Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
During a session presided over by Speaker Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule and attended by several members, the House Leader Hon Edison Ehie and those loyal to the governor were suspended. It is said that the explosion that occurred in the Assembly on Sunday was an attempt to prevent lawmakers from entering the Assembly on Monday. Despite this, some lawmakers managed to enter early in the morning and signed the impeachment notice.
The Moscow Road leading to the Assembly has been blocked by armed police officers.
