In a proactive move towards enhancing environmental aesthetics and adhering to the #GreenerLagos policy, officials from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (Lawma) and the state’s Ministry of Environment have executed a demolition operation targeting stalls erected on drainage channels adjacent to Silver Spring Schools in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab, of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, revealed the significant development through images shared on his official X handle on Thursday. According to Wahab, the initiative was undertaken based on his directive to ensure the beautification of the area, aligning with the state government’s environmental improvement campaign.
Wahab’s social media caption accompanied the images, stating, “As I instructed, illegal kiosks built on drainage setbacks beside Silver Springs Schools, Abaranje Road, Ikotun were earlier today evacuated by the #Lawma_gov enforcement team and the #LasgMOE monitoring officers.
“The monitoring officers were directed to request the Principal of the school to take over the setback and then beautify it in accordance with the #GreenerLagos policy of #jidesanwoolu led administration.”
This strategic move not only addresses the immediate concern of illegal structures impeding drainage systems but also reinforces the commitment of the Lagos State government to creating a cleaner and more environmentally sustainable urban landscape.
