In the early hours of yesterday morning, Assistant Superintendent of Police Linus, also known as “Agbalagba,” was brutally killed in Ndiegoro, Aba, Abia State. Gunmen allegedly opened fire on the police squad at the intersection of Tenant Road and East Street, causing the officers to give chase. A gunfight broke out, and during the chaos, Linus was decapitated by the assailants.
According to sources, the gang also made off with the officer’s rifle and uniform. The gruesome attack has sent shockwaves throughout the community, with residents expressing concern about further threats to police and civilians.
A retired police officer who spoke anonymously to Vanguard urged the Inspector General of Police and other security heads to take swift action in Ndiegoro and surrounding areas, citing an alarming rise in criminal activity. He also questioned whether the local police stations had the necessary resources to combat the issue effectively.
Attempts to reach Geoffrey Ogbonna, the police public relations officer for the Abia State Command, for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
